Fiamme Gialle Bivac

The bivouac evokes the spirit of classic mountaineering and offers a raw, immersive experience in nature, open to both alpinists and occasional visitors seeking isolation, silence, and the elements. Our design explores the essence of shelter in extreme conditions. Inspired by early mountain huts, it features a stable, truncated pyramid shape with an irregular hexagonal base, lightweight yet highly durable. A folded zinc titanium shell provides protection, with red openings referencing historic bivouacs. Inside, the space is minimal and flexible, hosting up to 12 people, with foldable beds and integrated storage to adapt to different needs. To give each of the three bivouacs a unique identity, we chose to highlight their altitude—the key element that sets them apart. With a graphic design studio, we created a way to display this number on the blind façade. For “Fiamme Gialle,” it’s 3005: both a piece of information and a clear visual marker. The typeface echoes the rhythm of the metal cladding and the stripes of mountain trails.
