Renovation of a house in a village in the centre of Tuscany
typology: private commission program: residential location: Val di Cecina, Toscana client: private team: Margherita Lurani (co-leader of the project) service: architecture and interior project photo: Antoine Lobot
The project is located in the village of Castello di Ginori in Querceto and concerns the transformation of a former barchessa – a traditional rural outbuilding typical of Tuscan villas and castles, historically used for agricultural storage and service functions. The intervention preserved the original layout, highlighting a distinctive feature of Tuscan houses: the absence of corridors, with a fluid sequence of rooms where one space naturally leads into the next. The design focused on enhancing the existing elements while introducing small, carefully considered improvements that elevate the overall quality of the building. Each room has been given special attention and a tailored character, allowing every space to express a different personality. As one moves through the house, these subtle variations create a rich experience of diverse atmospheres within a single, coherent dwelling. The project is completed with the design and construction of custom-made furniture, seamlessly integrating contemporary needs while respecting the historic and authentic identity of the building.
