Rifugio Sprugio Tonini
typology: competition program: public location: Trentino Alto-Adige team: Architetta Silvia Roseto, Architetto Loris Clara (co–leader of the project) service: architecture & interior project
After hours of walking through high pastures, exposed ridges and stone fields shaped by time, the Bedollo plateau reveals itself as a place where silence carries memory. Here once stood the Spruggio “Giovanni Tonini” Refuge, destroyed years ago but still alive in the footsteps of those who return. The new Tonini project is not a replica but a contemporary presence that honors the spirit of the original. It becomes both threshold and shelter, a meeting point between human experience and the vastness of the landscape. Rooted in the traditions of high-altitude rural architecture, the design draws inspiration from the stallone of Malga Spruggio Alta, reinterpreting its proportions, simplicity and orientation with a modern sensibility. A concrete base anchors the building to the terrain, recalling the rough stones of ancient malghe. A timber structure above offers warmth and lightness, while a pitched roof completes the composition with an archetypal, recognizable form. Compact volumes, integrated technical spaces and partially underground levels ensure functionality and a minimal visual impact. This is not a nostalgic reconstruction but a conscious act of continuity, an architecture that belongs to its place, its history and its future. The new Rifugio Tonini looks forward without forgetting what has been: a space for rest, encounter and memory.
